Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been suspended for making inappropriate remarks to a referee during a match.

The Premier League Secretariat said Klopp’s remarks to referee Paul Tierney during the 2022-23 English Premier League round 34 match against Tottenham held at Anfield, Liverpool, England on the 1st (Korean time) violated FA Rule E3. It was announced on the 19th that it would be suspended for two games and fined 75,000 pounds (about 120 million won).

Accordingly, Klopp will miss the match against Aston Villa at Anfield on the 20th. You will not be able to say hello to the Liverpool fans in the final home game of the season. The only remaining game is postponed until the next season, which does not violate E3 rules, and can return to the final match of the season to be held in Southampton on the 29th.

When Diogo Jota scored a dramatic goal in extra time in the second half against Tottenham 3-3, manager Klopp gave a fierce ceremony to the assistant referee. Referee Paul Tierney showed Klopp a yellow card.

The problem is the press conference after the game. Klopp insisted that the yellow card was the right decision, but that referee Tierney’s remarks to him were inappropriate.

“I don’t say anything. Neither do I because the referee doesn’t make his comments public. My ceremony was unnecessary and (the warning) was fair. But what Tierney said to me when he brought out the yellow card wasn’t right.” “We have a history with referee Tierney. I really don’t know what this guy has to do with us. He always says he has nothing but it’s not true. It’s hard to understand the way he sees me.”

“Tierney did not order Harry Kane to be sent off in a very important season (2-2 draw against Tottenham in December 2021),” he said, referring to the previous case.

Afterwards, Klopp said, “The words I used were inappropriate,” and said, “Tierney, like other referees, does his job without prejudice or prejudice. It’s not an excuse, but Tierney has played a lot of games this season. About 20% of his games. was related to us,” he bowed his head.

After hearing the voices of Tierney and Klopp in the situation, the referee management body issued a statement and said, “(Voice) is recorded in all matches through the communication system. “We have confirmed that he behaved in a professional manner throughout, including in the past, and we therefore refute all allegations that Tierney’s conduct was inappropriate.”

The match against Aston Villa, where manager Klopp cannot sit on the bench, is fatal in that it is a match that covers Liverpool’s fate for the season. With two games left in the season, Liverpool are in fifth place with 65 points, one point behind Manchester United. Besides, Manchester United have played one game less. Liverpool need to beat Aston Villa and Southampton and prevent Manchester United from winning two of their remaining three matches in order to move into fourth place.
